Vision
Sneha in Indian signifies ‘love’ or ‘benevolence’, encapsulating the spirit of our community.
Sneha is an intentionally hyperlocal non-profit focused on the Willow Glen Indian Community. This will help us meet security needs, collaborate and celebrate within a small driveable radius and build multi generational friendships which is the essence of a thriving ethnic community!
The challenges of elder care, raising children and meaningfully advocating in California takes multiple iterations, trial and error and a need for a community where we are familiar with each other roots and perspectives. Our financial, social and business needs are growing and have many distinct flavors that need wise sounding board through community.
Sneha wants to demystify living in the US for first gen immigrants and cater to all 3 generations:
- First gen immigrants in various stages of immigrant lifestyle – from a student, to a parent, to an empty nester to an aging senior
- Our parents and elder community that migrate based on our immigrant status changes even as they visit us temporarily or more permanently
- Our children who will be exposed to education, peer groups and cohorts that we never were exposed to as our schooling and education were completely different
Mission
Create a community of meaning where culture, celebration and connection are key to growing our influence and advocacy locally and impact us multigenerationally.
We want to achieve the following for the main personas we serve:
First gen Indian Immigrant: Whatever stage of immigration you are in, whether a student looking for an internship, needing an investment cohort or a professional interested in networking and growing into a homeowner and the needs that come with it whether its home improvement projects, home insurance, renovation, real estate investing et al or as a professional seeking second gigs/hustle we want to meet your ambitions and needs by connecting you to locals that have followed a similar path
Senior Community: Language and transport barriers are the key reasons why our seniors are in despair when they visit us. This community will offer them avenues to connect, share stories and sight see. We will also help aging members get support like pet care, help during vacation travel and music & company
Children: As children grow they are usually restricted to interacting with their peers and classmates from school. With majority of our children in private schools, it becomes imperative that they belong to cohorts outside of school so they can cherish meaningful friendships outside their school in their own neighborhood. Raising of a child needs a village and children will have different forks in their education where they will need guidance and mentorship outside their homes. This community wants to provide avenues for the older children to buddy up with the younger ones to develop meaningful hobbies, interests and ideas.
Our Goals
Events: An event every month not just focused on festivals et al but also on topics of interest like: School decisions (Private vs Public), Second gigs(Real estate investing, Early stage tech investing)
Representation: Programs where our kids can volunteer and have opportunities to benefit from events in Museums et al that have specific invites for NGOs to represent
Advocacy: Use the strength of this community to advocate for policy changes in school funding etc.
Opportunity: Moms/parents can join us as board members and work with the core founding team
Resource hub: Small businesses, Nanny/mother’s helper recommendations, Language proficiency, Mental Health & Wellbeing
Welcome to the Sneha community – Together we grow, together we thrive.
